What to Wear to Your SIA Training Course (And What to Avoid)
SIA courses aren’t military drills — but turning up in the wrong clothes can get you refused entry.
Here’s exactly what you should (and shouldn’t) wear on the day.
If this is your first time, you might want to check out our guide to what to expect on Day 1 of your SIA training before you go.
✅ Dress Code Basics
EEvery provider has their own rules, but most expect:
- Comfortable, casual clothes
- Closed-toe shoes (no sliders or sandals)
- Something you can move around in (especially for Door Supervisor training)
No one’s judging fashion here — but trainers expect you to look presentable and respectful.
⚠️ What Not to Wear
These are the most common reasons people get pulled aside or sent home:
- ❌ Flip-flops or sliders
- ❌ Tracksuits with hoods up
- ❌ Offensive graphics or slogans
- ❌ Heavy cologne or strong body spray
- ❌ Anything that makes you stand out for the wrong reasons
Even if the course is laid-back, first impressions still count.
🎓 For Door Supervisor Training
You’ll be doing some physical intervention work — so wear:
- Joggers or flexible trousers
- T-shirt or polo
- Trainers with grip
Avoid anything tight — you’ll regret it during drills.
📷 Will They Take a Photo?
Some providers take a photo for their own attendance records or internal ID,
but it will not appear on your SIA licence.
The photo on your actual badge comes from your SIA application, not your training provider.
🔁 Does It Change Per Day?
Sometimes:
- Day 1: Classroom-based (ID checks, paperwork)
- Mid-course: Physical training (dress light)
- Final day: Exams (wear what you’re comfortable in)
Ask your provider if they have different expectations per day.
Final Tip
You don’t need to dress up — but you do need to look like someone who wants the job.
If in doubt, think “clean, calm, and comfortable.”
